A major change in celebration of the Mass for the Roman Catholic Church took place when the altar was reversed so that the priest would face the congregation during the service. Monsignor John Gehl is shown celebrating Mass at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in March 1965. The change was one of many that resulted from the second Vatican Council of 1962 to 1965.
