In the 1950s Adams Street was home to a wide variety of businesses. Among the street's well-known hotels were the Hotel Astor and the Hotel Northland. The Hotel Astor burned to the ground February 4, 1966. The Hotel Northland was remodeled into private apartments in the 1970s, but has since been returned to its former glory as a hotel.
