Preble High School students participate in the first Earth Day April 22, 1970. The brainchild of Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, the national event brought attention to the growing concern over air and water pollution. The grass roots effort led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Act.
