"Oddly enough, Fort Howard, then a separate Village (now West Green Bay) had a Street car line in 1893- a year earlier than (east) Green Bay. The entire line consisted of three street cars. Power plant and several miles of track and trolley, and the rolling stock is proudly displayed in this 1893 photograph. The cars here are headed South on Broadway., just South of Walnut Street intersection. the two-story building showing faintlyin the background was razed only recently (1960) . the only individual indentified is David Mccarthy, the old gentleman standing to the right of the policeman. apparently is was Mr. Mccarthy's checkbook that made the Fort Howard Street car line a reality. several years later the line was merged with the (east) Green Bay line, and street car service across the Fox river was established."
