"1900-this print could be call "LADY and UMBRELLA" or perhaps we should mention the coat, which obviously provides full rainy weather protection for the wearer-right from the ground up. The umbrella which the young lady holds so firmly seems a bit conspicuous, but of course was a very necessary accessory. the young lady, attractive as she is, would have been a real charmer by registering a tiny bit of a smile. but then, having your portrait made way back in 1900 was a matter of no trifling privilege, and this, plus the need of posing rigidly for at least several seconds because of the "slow" photographic plate of that time, put the average portrait sitter under considerable tension. never the less, the photographic quality produced back there with the primitive materials then available is astonishingly good. "
