Traditional Watercraft

This shows how the Umiak boat looks inside. The frame is made of drift wood and covered with walrus skins here in Wales, Alaska (up North, ooqarak (seal) skins cover them). These men are out among the ice after walrus or whales. The skins are sewed together, then laced into the frame and often skins get a coat of paint to preserve them.
