Relaxing Outside Rockwood

Rockwood Lodge was the site of the Green Bay Packers’ training camp from 1946 – 1949 until it burned to the ground on January 24, 1950. The lodge, a dream location for Coach Lambeau, is considered to be the first self-contained training facility in the NFL. The pristine beauty of the area, now Bay Shore Park, did not win over the players or fans: the players despised Rockwood due to the layer of Limestone beneath the practice fields; the fans did not like to travel the17 miles away from City Stadium to watch their beloved Packers.
